Introduction:

 

Call to order—1:15 p.m.

 

MD1:

 

–        The annual Poker Run for the Maryland Fallen Firefighters Memorial is June 4th.

–        The Memorial Ride is June 5th from the Park and Ride in Davidsonville to the Firefighters Memorial in Annapolis.

–        We are awaiting a date for the Memorial cleaning. Once that is established I will pass on the word.

 

MD2:

 

–        Nothing to report (not in attendance)

 

MD3:

 

–        Just wanted to reiterate that all State meetings are open meetings.  Any and all Red Knights in the State of Maryland are more than welcome to attend.

–        The Annual Convention is approaching fast.  The dates are September 8-11, 2011.

–        There are 3 hotels set aside for Red Knights. The Quality Inn Boardwalk ($140.00 a night plus tax), Harrison Hall Hotel ($80.00 a night plus tax) and Holiday Inn and Suites ($250.00 a night plus tax). The Quality Inn will be the convention headquarters.

  • Tuesday (Sept. 6th)
    • The International team and the Executive Board will be arriving.
  • Wednesday (Sept. 7th)
    • Executive Board meetings at the Quality Inn.
  • Thursday (Sept. 8th)
    • The rest of the general membership will be arriving.
    • Registration will be throughout the day as people arrive
    • 6:00 – 8:00 will be BBQ style buffet on the Penthouse balcony overlooking the boardwalk
    • Immediately following dinner there will be a bonfire on the beach until about 10:00 pm in front of the Quality Inn.
  • Friday (Sept. 9th)
    • There will be a variety of meetings in the morning. The meetings will be held from 8:00 – 9:00 or 9:00 – 10:00.
      • Topics will include but will not be limited to Grant Applications, Raod Captains course and proper techniques for group rides.
    • After the meetings, there will be various activities throughout the late morning and into the early evening.
      • Golf, tennis, miniature golf, volleyball, jet-ski rentals, parasailing, boat rides, and charter fishing trips. Visits to the famous O.C. Boardwalk and the O.C. Fallen Firefighter Memorial. Shopping at the nearby outlet stores and other points of interest.
      • Escorted Rides – Nations Capital Ride – See our nation’s capital, Vietnam Wall, Arlington Cemetery. (We will confirm this ride as the date gets closer.)
      • Assateague Ride -A beautiful ride to one of the barrier islands and a great place to witness the scenic beauty of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, it’s wildlife and, the World Famous Assateague Ponies.
      • Mr. Whippy Ride – Heading to Chincoteague Island, VA (3-4 hours round trip) and visiting MISTER WHIPPY’s World Famous Ice Cream Parlor.
    • After “free-time” there will be a crab feast at the American Legion on 24th Street that is optional.  We will need an accurate head count for those who want to attend.
    • After the crab feast there are 2 options: (1) SEACRETS night club or (2) Pick a place and party.  With the 2nd option, ask a member of MD 3 and they will hook you up with a local watering hole.  There are numerous nightlife hot spots to visit or just hang out on the boardwalk.
  • Saturday (Sept 10th)
    • MORNING:
      • 8:00 until 12:30 is the annual business meeting.  We have booked the Parish Hall on 17th Street. *No other events will be planned during this time!
    • AFTERNOON:
      • Half day fishing excursions aboard the Angler or other charter boat
      • Visit the commercial harbor and see a bit of “Old World” Ocean City.
      • Lounge around the pool or visit the beach and take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean.
      • Take a trip to the Boardwalk
      • Open House at the Harley-Davidson Shop of Ocean City.
      • Maryland Chapter 3’s Red Knight’s “Bike Show”.
        • Awards for People’s Choice, Best in Show, Best 911 or Fire Fighter Theme Bike, Farthest Traveled, Oldest (bike….not member)
    • EVENING:
      • 6pm – 9pm – Annual Convention Dinner consisting of awards ceremony, swearing in of new officers, and general announcements at the Convention Center.
      • 9pm – till – Last chance to party like a “LOCAL.” Dance to our provided music, relax by the pool, or find a quiet place to have a drink.
  • Sunday (Sept. 11th)
    • 7:00 – 9:00 is the traditional send-off breakfast
    • 9:00 – 11:00: staging for the 9-11 ceremony/memorial service
    •  We ride down the boardwalk to the Firefighter Memorial where the service will be held. Hundreds of spectators line the boardwalk to waive as we pass by.

–        11:30am – Annual 9/11 Memorial Ride and Service on the Ocean City Boardwalk. September 11, 2011 will be the ten year anniversary. We will end the convention with a Ceremony/Memorial Service will be held at Ocean City’s Firefighters Memorial. We will end the convention with an escorted ride out of OC immediately following the service.

 

*****THE 9-11 RIDE TO REMEMBER IS OPTIONAL*****

 

–        Bob is checking with the hotel group to see if people can park at the large parking lot adjacent to the hotels for people who are not staying the suggested hotels.

–        MD3 has requested some additional help in the following areas:

  • registration desk
    • Directions around the area, registration and clarification on meeting times and places.
  • Giveaways
    • collecting donations

–        As of May 1st there were 85 people already pre-registered.

  • You can pre-register through the Red Knights International website.

–        Motorcycle tags: as of May 1st, 3 tags have been produced. We are waiting on the remaining 38. MVA will be sending out tags if you do not have an expired registration.

–        For security reasons tags are now being sent to individuals directly from the MVA.

–        If anyone is interested in receiving a refund for the tags please send Curtis an email.

–        Since someone is here to officially take notes, does that mean the minutes are finally going to get published?

 

MD4:

 

–        We are hosting a combined poker run and rodeo with Bay District volunteer fire department on May 21st. immediately following the rodeo there will be an all you can eat BBQ dinner and dance.

–        The cost of the poker run and rodeo is $25.00 and the cost of the dinner and dance is $25.00.

–        we will be hosting Dixie in 2012

  • The dates for Dixie are May 18th thru the 20th.

 

MD5:

 

–        Bragging rights in membership participation.  The meetings are the 2nd Wednesday of every month and have had a high membership turnout.

 

MD6:

 

–        Nothing to report (not in attendance).

 

MD7:

 

–        Working with Sutterville Fire Company poker run.

–        Waiting on a date. The goal is to run the poker run in conjunction with the carnival.

–        Team building ride to upstate New York

–        Poker on Friday nights as a club.

 

MD8:

 

–        Tag issue: Curtis already addressed this

–        Membership cards?  Do we have any?

  • Chris will check on them.  Let him know if you do not receive them by June 1st.

–        June 4th annual poker run (FFSF poker run)

–        MASS 2 contacted MD 8 and sent them a thank you letter for lodging on their recent trip.

–        Good job getting up and running.

 

INTERNATIONAL:

 

–        Syracuse, NY in April

  • There was a misinterpretation of the SOGS and the by-laws.
    • If a Chapter wants SOGs, then do it.
  • International does not want to micromanage.

–        There have been a lot of complaints of members leaving chapters

  • Suggestion: have 12 month discussion points within the Chapter to keep members interested.

–        Lake George-June 7th

  • Wednesday-dinner ($65.00/plate)
  • Thursday-Lake George Fire Department is hosting a spaghetti dinner

–        Heaven lost-bottom rocker- for those members that have passed on.

–        June 16th or 18th is the escort of the 9-11 metal escort ride.

  • The ride will go from JFK to Connecticut to Boylston Mass.  Once we cross into Massachusetts, we will have a police escort.

–        100% completion on dues and TMLA. Maryland is only 1 of 2 states that have everything completed.  GOOD JOB

–        1st National Association in Australia has now been formed.

 

TREASURER REPORT:

 

–        $356.50 in the account

–        MD 3 and 6 have not paid the $50.00 in the start up fee for the association.

  • MD 3 paid $50.00 on May 1st.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

–        Reminder of upcoming events:

  • Red Helmet Ride October 15th
  • Gathering of the Knights in Gettysburg October 14th – 16th
  • Dixie May 2012

–        Jenifer Downs nominated for Secretary
